Don Berwick, described by Time magazine as the most influential man in health, talks to Kathryn Ryan on Radio New Zealand’s Nine to Noon programme about improving the quality and safety of health care. In an inspiring 30 minute interview he discusses the ‘Obamacare’ health reforms he helped bring in and how improving health quality and safety results in  better care for patients and reduced costs for providers.

He also discusses the need to prevent errors, reduce infection rates, remove barriers to improvement, and increase consumer engagement.

Dr Berwick founded the Institute of Healthcare Improvement which works to improve health care worldwide.  He is  in New Zealand to work with Ko Awatea and will speak  at the upcoming Asia Pacific Forum of health care leaders in Auckland in September.  Click here to register at the conference.
