Safekids Aotearoa’s child injury prevention workshop series is back and this year’s theme is home safety.

Supported by Starship Foundation and ACC, there are 13 workshops scheduled this year. For venues and dates visit http://bit.ly/SafekidsWorkshops2016.

On average, 48 children are killed every year due to home-related injuries. Every month 231 children are hospitalised the same way. The majority of those killed and injured are children under five.

Home-related ACC claims amount to $58 million, representing a huge burden on our health system. Injury topics to be discussed at the workshops are burns, button batteries, cutting and piercing, drowning, falls, driveway run overs, poisoning, suffocation and strangulation. The agenda also includes discussions on child injury data and new resources available from Safekids.

These workshops are FREE and everyone working in the child health and safety field is invited to attend. To register, email VictoriaJ@adhb.govt.nz.
