May and October 2011 issues of WHO Patient Safety Newsletter

The World Health Organization’s Patient Safety Newsletter comes out quarterly. 

The May 2011 issue focuses on the challenges of measuring the impact of patient safety interventions. It includes editorials from Sir Liam Donaldson entitled Measuring the unmeasurable, and a feature by guest writer Professor Peter Pronovost entitled Making progress in patient safety.

It has the following articles: 

  • Indicators for a WHO global annual campaign
  • Linking measurement to patient safety action
  • Measuring the impact of patient engagement on health care safety
  • Measuring the impact of intervention. 

The October 2011 issue focuses on patient safety in Africa. It includes an editorial from Sir Liam Donaldson entitled The right question for Africa, and a feature by guest writer Dr Sam Zaramba entitled Patient safety in Africa – vision and realism. It has the following articles:

  • Small grants projects on the African continent
  • Safe surgery progress in Africa
