The Health Quality & Safety Commission’s new Open for leadership awards begin next month.
The awards will recognise emerging leaders at two district health boards (DHBs) each month. These will be staff who have made a difference to patient care, with a particular focus on encouraging the nomination of frontline staff. Nominations will be for individuals only, although they can be individuals who have successfully led a team. Clinical nominees must be in training or in their first five years post registration. Each DHB will decide whom to put forward for the award, and how it goes about choosing that person.
‘The Commission is excited to have the opportunity to highlight the excellent work being done in our DHBs from emerging health care leaders,’ says Commission chief executive Dr Janice Wilson.
‘This can be new and innovative ways to address an area of harm or engage with consumers and their families/whanau or a safety initiative that has reaped measurable benefits.’
The first DHBs to take part will be Waikato and MidCentral.
Recipients will receive a trophy recognising their leadership and a free place at an upcoming Commission event of their choice (subject to availability).
