2 Nov 2016 | Infection Prevention & Control
World Antibiotic Awareness Week is being held from 14–20 November 2016. The global campaign aims to increase awareness of antibiotic resistance and encourage good practice among the general public, health care workers, policymakers and the farming sector to avoid further emergence and spread of antibiotic resistance. The theme of World Antibiotic Awareness Week 2016 is ‘handle antibiotics with care’.
Antibiotic resistance happens when bacteria become resistant to the antibiotics used to treat the infections they cause. This compromises our ability to treat infectious diseases and undermines many advances in medicine. We must handle antibiotics with care so they remain effective for as long as possible.
There are a number of useful resources available on preventing antibiotic resistance and handling antibiotics with care.
