Participants confirmed for anti-staphylococcal bundle collaborative for surgical site infection

25 Jul 2017 | Infection Prevention & Control

In May the Commission sought expressions of interest from surgical providers to develop a standardised national pre-operative anti-staphylococcal bundle (the bundle). The bundle will include components of pre-operative interventions to support a reduction in surgical site infections (SSI) caused by Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), and will be developed using collaborative methodologies between August 2017 and June 2018.

The bundle is focused on those adult orthopaedic and cardiac procedures that are part of the Commission’s surgical site infection improvement programme. However, organisations may choose to extend it to other surgical areas following the collaborative.

The Commission is pleased to announce that the following surgical providers have agreed to be part of this fantastic initiative:

  • Acurity Health Group Limited (Bowen and Wakefield Hospitals)
  • Auckland DHB
  • Canterbury DHB
  • Hutt Valley DHB
  • Lakes DHB
  • Southern DHB
  • Southern Cross Hamilton
  • Waikato DHB
  • Waitemata DHB

The first learning session will be held on 17 August 2017 and regular progress updates will be provided over the course of the collaborative.
