Safe use of opioids national collaborative ends – opioid safety work to continue

4 Jul 2016 | Medication Safety

The end of June 2016 marked the formal completion of the Health Quality & Safety Commission's safe use of opioids national collaborative.

A great deal has been achieved over the last 18 months. All of the district health board teams involved in the collaborative have made a valuable contribution and put in a lot of hard work towards improving the safe use of opioids.

From 1 July 2016, the safe use of opioids became a formal workstream of the Commission’s medication safety programme. This means work will continue in this important area.

The immediate focus of the medication safety team is to finalise the emerging care bundles that will be tested further during 2016–17. The emerging care bundles are being developed with the support of the collaborative’s expert faculty which has been reconvened for this task. The emerging care bundles will be shared when completed – watch this space.
