Below are the presentations from the regional medication safety workshops hosted by the Commission, in partnership with ACC and MedSafe, held between 30 October and 3 November 2017 in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington and Dunedin. 

Purpose

As well as being a precursor to Patient Safety Week (5-11 November 2017), the purpose of these workshops was to continue to build the profile of medication safety in New Zealand, and to discuss how to address our response to the WHO’s Global Challenge.

Introducing keynote speaker

Michael HamiltonDr Michael JA Hamilton BSc, BEd, MD, MPH, CCFP

Physician Lead and Medication Safety Specialist, Institute for Safe Medication Practices Canada (ISMP Canada)

Michael has over 15 years of clinical medicine involvement in rural, remote, and urban practice, with experience in emergency medicine, long-term care, inpatient care and office practice.

He has a number of oversight and leadership roles within the organisation including leading ISMP Canada’s national opioid safety project, Safer decisions save lives. As part of the incident analysis group, he participates in the investigation of medication errors, contributes to the dissemination of safety recommendations, and collaborates in research projects with the institute.
