Call for nominations for the Child and Youth Mortality Review Committee [closed]

The Health Quality & Safety Commission Board is seeking a Māori member with expertise relevant to the Child and Youth Mortality Review Committee.

Nominations close on Friday, 17 October 2014 at 5pm.

The Child and Youth Mortality Review Committee is a mortality review committee established under Section 59e of the New Zealand Public Health and Disability Act 2000. The Committee is required to review and report on child and youth mortality and morbidity from 28 days up to 25 years as directed by the Commission Board, for the purposes of improving quality and safety and saving lives.

Collectively, the committee will have the following expertise:

  • knowledge of mortality review systems
  • knowledge of issues affecting children and youth
  • knowledge of epidemiology, research and health systems
  • cultural expertise.

In particular, applications are sought from candidates with strength in any of the following areas:

  • governance and/or leadership experience, with specific relevance to child and youth mortality review and/or child and youth health
  • knowledge of research and epidemiology
  • adolescent health expertise
  • knowledge of Māori health
  • knowledge of Pacific Island health.

All applicants are required to have the following skills:

  • wide professional or cultural networks
  • strong personal integrity and ethical behaviour
  • commitment to the issues at the heart of the Committee’s business
  • critical appraisal skills
  • highly developed written and oral skills
  • wide life experience
  • respect of peers
  • appropriate clinical or professional experience
  • ability to engage with the other members of the committee and contribute constructively.
