Beverley Johnson forums and workshop

Beverley Johnson, who heads the Board of the Institute of Patient and Family Centred Care in the United States, is coming to New Zealand in October. She will be involved in two types of events - quality forums, and a workshop on consumer engagement. Due to very strong interest, registrations for these events are now closed.

Quality Forums: Improving Together: consumers, clinicians & services

The Health Quality & Safety Commission will hold the first of its quality forums in Auckland and Christchurch in October.

The forums are for people working in health, as well as health consumers and groups representing consumer interests. 

Consumer engagement and participation in the health and disability sector is a priority for the Health Quality & Safety Commission, and is an important aspect of quality improvement.

Beverley Johnson, who heads the Board of the Institute of Patient and Family Centered Care in the United States, will be the keynote speaker at the two forums.  The Commission has brought her to New Zealand to share her experiences of working with hospitals and health organisations to improve consumer involvement and leadership.

She will then go to a conference in Melbourne, where she will deliver a keynote speech as a result of sponsorship from the Commission.

The forums will be held at:

·         Ko Awatea, Middlemore Hospital, Auckland, Tuesday 4 October 2011, 9am to 5pm

·         Cashmere Club, Garden Room, Colombo St, Christchurch, Thursday 6 October 2011, 9am to 5pm.

Workshop on consumer engagement

Improving together: strengthening the consumer voice

The Health Quality & Safety Commission is hosting a workshop in October for people who have an interest in or a responsibility to enhance their organisation’s engagement with consumers. The workshop will be presented by Beverley Johnson who will use a local case study and work with participants to create a plan for the implementation of a consumer group to provide advice to your organisation.

About Beverley Johnson

Beverley JohnsonBeverley H. Johnson is the President/CEO of the Institute for Patient- and Family-Centered Care in Bethesda, Maryland. She has provided technical assistance to over 250 hospitals, health systems, and federal, state, and provincial agencies.

She has co-authored books and other publications on patient- and family-centered practice. She is currently the Project Director for a multi-year initiative to develop and disseminate leadership resource materials for senior executives and managers in hospital, ambulatory, and long-term care settings on how to partner with patients/residents and families.

 Beverley serves on the Selection Committee for the American Hospital Association-McKesson Quest for Quality Prize. In 2007, Bev was presented with The Changemaker Award by the Board for the Center for Health Care Design.
