Expressions of interest are sought from members of the Capital & Coast District Health Board (DHB) community to be part of VOICE for Consumers – Capital & Coast DHB’s Consumer Council.

Capital & Coast DHB values the input of consumers into decision-making about local health care services. They are looking for people who are passionate about consumers being able to access the best possible services and care from Capital & Coast DHB health services and would like to be involved in the development of health and disability services that are in the best interests of the community as a whole.

VOICE for Consumers will meet every two months to work with Capital & Coast DHB as a consumer voice for the planning and delivery of health services in hospital and the community. VOICE stands for the council’s objectives, which are to ensure;

  • Visibility – Ensure appropriate consumer participation across the DHB
  • Ownership – Work collaboratively with community and hospital based services to identify issues requiring consumer participation
  • Involvement – Provide a consumer perspective on the development of DHB health service priorities and provide advice on appropriate issues
  • Communication – Provide a means for effective communication with community and consumer groups
  • Engagement – Through networking create an environment for community and hospital engagement focused on the best interests of the population as a whole

The VOICE will, through partnership with community and hospital-based health services, provide a voice for consumers, to improve the quality, safety and experience of care. The VOICE will promote equity of access and treatment to ensure that services are consumer-focused and organised around the needs of individuals and whānau.

Members are sought from a range of backgrounds, with knowledge and skills that reflect the diversity of the community. VOICE members may have their own particular areas of interest but will not be regarded as representatives of any specific organisation or community, or be required to be a recent user of Capital & Coast DHB health services.
