Jointly hosted by the Health Quality & Safety Commission and the Australia New Zealand Intensive Care Society (ANZICS), this two-day conference brings together nursing and medical staff, quality professionals, educators, consumers and leaders in health care. If you are involved in providing acute care in New Zealand hospitals, this conference is for you!

We will explore patient deterioration in the New Zealand context. This includes the New Zealand early warning score, communication skills for ‘difficult conversations’, and patient, family and whānau escalation.

Confirmed keynote speaker

  • Associate Professor Daryl Jones is a leader in implementing and researching recognition and response systems in Australia.

    Daryl is an Intensive Care Specialist at Austin Health and is Associate Professor at Monash University. He is also an adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Melbourne and an advisor to the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Healthcare. He graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1996.

    Daryl has an interest in improving the recognition of, and response to deteriorating patients. His current research includes sepsis and end of life care. Recently, he has revealed that sepsis is an important precipitant for MET calls at Austin Health. In-hospital sepsis is associated with a high risk of death.
