Patient Safety Week sector update – 4 September 2018

4 Sep 2018 | Patient Safety Week

When: 4–10 November 2018
Theme: Infection prevention and control

Thanks to those who have been in touch with us with questions about Patient Safety Week (PSW). We appreciate your ideas and feedback.

Resources

The resource order form opens on Monday 10 September 2018. If you would like to be notified when the order form is live, email the team at patientsafetyweek@hqsc.govt.nz. Orders will close at midday on 26 September 2018.

A few organisations have had trouble accessing Google forms in the past. These issues are usually overcome by speaking with your IT department or by placing an order from a personal phone or computer.

The resources able to be ordered are:

  • A3 ‘Wash your hands’ poster for consumers in English, Māori, Simplified Chinese, Hindi, Samoan, Tongan
  • A2 ‘Wash your hands’ poster in English
  • A3 ‘Are you giving germs a hand?’ poster for consumers in English, Māori, Simplified Chinese, Hindi, Samoan, Tongan
  • A2 ‘Are you giving germs a hand?’ poster in English
  • A3 ‘Germ hotspots’ poster for clinicians in English, Māori, Simplified Chinese, Hindi, Samoan, Tongan
  • A2 ‘Germ hotspots’ poster in English
  • colouring competition pads (one pad = 30 sheets)
  • stickers in English only.

The electronic resources able to be ordered are:

  • screensavers (three kinds)
  • animated GIFs of germ illustrations
  • static jpegs of germ illustrations
  • electronic one-pager about PSW that you can personalise and distribute within your organisation.

Our aim is to deliver the quantities you order. Limited budgets mean that some orders may need to be scaled back so that everyone receives something. Please consider your actual needs when ordering and remember we can only fill one order per organisation.

Please feel free to use the germ illustrations in the manner that works for you. We just ask that the characters themselves are not altered. If you are tweaking materials that have the Health Quality & Safety Commission, Ministry of Health and ACC logos on them, please send them to us for sign-off before producing.

Some of you have told us that you will create your own screensavers or you will use the germ illustrations to create messages for staff and put them in staff areas/lifts, etc. We would love to see what you come up with!

Competitions

A national poster competition about antibiotic awareness is underway in schools, and entries close on Friday 28 September. The winners will be announced during PSW.

We are also running a colouring competition during PSW which would make a great promotion in general practice waiting areas, in pharmacies and in the community. The prize is a $100 Prezzy® card. Entries will be uploaded to the Commission’s Facebook page and a winner drawn at the end of PSW.

Unpaid media/public relations
We are working on an unpaid media strategy with the Ministry and ACC and will share it with our contacts when it is completed.
