Waikato Hospital team wins display competition

23 May 2016 | Reducing Harm from Falls

The egg-cellent team of Mary-Anne Go, Bryden Ortega and Jean Barnard at the Regional Renal In-centre Dialysis Unit, Waikato Hospital are this year’s winners of the Health Quality & Safety Commission’s April Falls display competition.

The competition is run as part of the annual April Falls campaign. A number of teams across Waikato District Health Board (DHB) entered the competition. The Commission thanks them, and all other teams in DHBs and aged care facilities across the country, for their work in sharing falls prevention messages. The next issue of Focus on Falls will feature the winning display and some of the highly-commended entries.

The winning entry focused on a common cause of falls in their unit – falls due to postural hypotension post dialysis.

They had with a theme of eggs throughout their colourful and lively displays, which were placed by the main entrance so many people would be able to see and interact with the boards.

'We reviewed the physiology of hypotension and went through actions for nurses and patients, at dialysis and at home for preventing falls, and gathered resources for more information and the essential forms around falls as the ‘learning’,' they say.

The prize is a $100 voucher toward a celebration morning-tea for their team. Congratulations!
