Inaugural hip fracture registry annual report released

13 Oct 2016 | Reducing Harm from Falls

The inaugural annual report for the Australian and New Zealand Hip Fracture Registry was released in September and four hospitals from New Zealand feature in the report.

The registry collects data against a set of clinical indicators, aligned with the recently released Hip Fracture Care Clinical Care Standard.

Several district health board (DHB) hospitals have recently decided to join the registry. Over the coming year, the Health Quality & Safety Commission encourages all DHBs to implement the hip fracture registry as part of the system approach to improve the care provided to hip fracture patients.

A New Zealand hip fracture registry implementation and management committee has been formed with representatives from key stakeholders. These groups include:

  • the Australian & New Zealand Society of Geriatric Medicine
  • the New Zealand Orthopaedic Association
  • the Ministry of Health
  • ACC
  • Osteoporosis New Zealand
  • the Health Quality & Safety Commission.

For more information about the registry or to arrange a site visit to discuss it further please contact Chris Pegg, national registry co-ordinator (chris.pegg@nra.health.nz, 021 943 541).
