Preparation for teamwork and communication interventions begins in July

28 May 2015 | Safe Surgery NZ

All district health boards (DHBs) have indicated their preferred cohort for the Health Quality & Safety Commission’s rollout of surgical teamwork and communication interventions.

We are pleased to announce the members of the first cohort will be Auckland, Counties Manukau, Lakes, Taranaki, Northland, Waikato and Waitemata DHBs. Membership of the second and third cohorts are being finalised.

Each cohort will have three-months to prepare for the rollout, followed by a nine-month implementation period. The first cohort will begin their preparation in July 2015 and begin implementation in October 2015. A member of the Commission's Reducing Perioperative Harm team will be in touch with cohort one project leads shortly.

We are also working with the New Zealand Private Surgical Hospitals Association and representatives from Southern Cross to confirm the Commission's approach to implementation in private surgical hospitals. We expect the private hospitals will work with their local DHB to implement the interventions.
