Kia āta kōwhiri Choosing Wisely

The Choosing Wisely campaign seeks to reduce harm from unnecessary and low-value tests and treatment.

The Safe Medication Management Programme began in April 2008, under the leadership of Hutt Valley DHB via a Crown Funding Agreement. The Commission took over the Safe Medication Management Programme in early 2011, and retained the following workstreams:

  • implement a national medication chart
  • implement a standardised approach to medicine reconciliation
  • fund the pilots for electronic prescribing and administration and electronic medicine reconciliation
  • retain and continue the alerting on high-risk medicines and situation that the Safe and Quality Use of Medicines group had established.
