Te Tāhū Hauora Health Quality & Safety Commission
26 August 2018

Professor Alan Merry, chair of the Health Quality & Safety Commission board, has been appointed Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences at the University of Auckland.

A practising anaesthetist at Auckland City Hospital and current head of the University’s School of Medicine, Prof Merry has a wealth of experience at faculty, university and government levels.

In the announcement made yesterday, John Fraser, Dean of the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, said that Prof Merry's significant profile, particularly within the Ministry of Health and appropriate government circles, made him an ideal candidate for the role.

Commission chief executive, Dr Janice Wilson, and members of the board congratulate Prof Merry on this prestigious appointment.

Prof Merry begins his new role on 1 January 2019.
