eReferral takes it up a notch

Pressure injuries (Reducing harm)
18 December 2012

The Emergency Department at Waikato Hospital is now receiving electronic referrals from general practices in the Midlands Health Network. The new system means the emergency department knows when a patient is coming and has their medical information readily available. It also works the other way around. GPs are now notified of the patient’s arrival, if the patient is admitted, and when they are discharged.

The eReferral system already connects 77 Waikato practices with other departments within Waikato Hospital. The addition of the emergency department will extend the benefits further, increasing efficiency and improving patient safety.
