Surgical Safety Checklist features on TV3

Safe Surgery NZ
30 April 2014

3News featured a story on its Firstline show about the importance of using the surgical safety checklist. You can view the clip and online release here.

The Auckland School of Medicine Simulation Centre and the Health Quality & Safety Commission's Open campaign coordinated the simulation for TV3 to raise awareness of the surgical safety checklist, as part of the campaign’s focus on reducing perioperative harm.

The story covered the importance of the checklist, the need for change, the way the checklist is used, and importance of teamwork and communication. There were great interviews with Associate Health Minister Goodhew and Mr Ian Civil, and excellent footage of members of the surgical team using the checklist correctly.
