Theme and activity for Patient Safety Day 2020

Aotearoa Patient Safety Day
26 March 2020

In 2019, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced a new World Patient Safety Day, to be held annually on 17 September. From this year, New Zealand will align with the WHO’s campaign, instead of holding a separate awareness week in November.

Any New Zealand-specific activity will be guided by the chosen theme, which has not yet been announced.

However, due to the pressure on our health system and its staff from COVID-19, we will run a reduced campaign in 2020. Instead of developing new content we will follow the lead of the WHO, using and promoting the resources they develop and promoting our existing resources where possible.

We will update our website again when more information about Patient Safety Day 2020 is available. If you have any queries in the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact us at communications@hqsc.govt.nz.
