The Care Guide for Health Care Assistants in aged residential care (the Guide) is a national resource that supports health care assistants by providing prompts while caring for frail older people living in aged care.
The Guide replaces the original caregiver guide that was developed by Waitemata DHB in 2010. Te Tāhū Hauora Health Quality & Safety Commission worked in collaboration with the Waitemata DHB Older adults and home health community gerontology nurse practitioners and a few of the ARC quality leads to update the clinical content and provide a te ao Māori perspective to the Guide.
The Guide includes relevant information for health care assistants on a total of 20 topics including a chapter on tikanga Māori for kaumātua. The guide has also been aligned with the RN Frailty Care Guides.
The Guide will be available as a pdf and in a format optimised for mobile digital devices.
