Kia āta kōwhiri Choosing Wisely

The Choosing Wisely campaign seeks to reduce harm from unnecessary and low-value tests and treatment.

During late 2017 / early 2018, the Health Quality & Safety Commission hosted a number of regional workshops to provide an opportunity for those working in the sector to input into the future of quality improvement in aged residential care and inform how we can add value.

The workshops were half-day events and included a teaching/education session presented by Dr Michal Boyd, national clinical lead for the programme, on care planning and the use of interRAI, picking up on the key themes of communication and leadership facilitation for improvement. Michal also shared the latest clinical research on assessing frailty, the high-risk indicators and the work she is leading in the development of frailty guides. The Commission programme team shared some early stage thinking around the development of 'quality of life measures' and sought input and feedback into this work.

At the workshops, we called for consumer stories and examples of best practices that are working to improve care, with the aim of sharing these with sector.

The slides from the key presentations are available below, and key themes will be released shortly.
