First public release of adult primary care patient experience survey results by PHO

Patient experience
08 September 2026

Patient experience survey results

Selected results from the adult primary care patient experience survey will be publicly available at primary health organisation (PHO) level for the first time through the Health Quality & Safety Commission Te Tāhū Hauora's online patient experience explorer.

Previously, survey results could be viewed by district and demographic characteristics. The new PHO-level reporting provides additional insight into how people experience primary care and highlights opportunities for improvement.

The new reporting includes a selected set of survey questions focused on core patient experience measures and areas that show variation between population groups or align with improvement priorities.

Supporting quality improvement in general practice

The Commission is also distributing patient experience reports to more than 900 general practices, summarising their survey results and providing practical tips and resources to support quality improvement.

Together, the new PHO-level reporting and practice reports support the use of patient experience information to improve the quality of primary care.
