Ko Maungapohatu - Ko Tongariro nga Maunga
Bubsie MacFarlane is the Chief Executive Officer for Aroha Mai Cancer Support Services in Rotorua, the only Maori cancer support group in the country. She is a founding member of the original Aroha Mai Cancer Support Group, which expanded and is now a full time community organisation run as a registered non-profit charity that is well respected in the Rotorua community and beyond.
Bubsie’s position allows her to offer clients support during their journey with cancer, support which always encompasses the whanau/family. She brings 10 years of experience in providing assistance to cancer patients and works with a passion to help them and their whanau/family through the most testing times they may encounter.
From this role, and earlier involvement with youth at risk and health promotion related to child injury prevention, Bubsie brings a focus on safety, and skills in running campaigns, working with other agencies and community involvement. For Bubsie there’s a direct linkage with her cancer support work: "In the cancer patient’s journey it is paramount the whanau/family put things in place to prevent them from injuring themselves."
Bubsie is linked with the Rotorua community through her connections with education and health providers, iwi/hapu and local government. Nationally, she is a representative on a myriad of cancer advisory and Maori health governance groups and boards.
