Experiences of people receiving care in an emergency department

28 Jul 2026

Results from the adult primary care patient experience survey module 2025

This is the first national report on emergency department (ED) experience. ED experience is captured through a module attached to the primary care experience survey. The ED module was carried out for the first time in May 2025 and had 8,000 responses.

The survey asked patients five questions about their ED experience. Key results were:

  •  85 percent of respondents felt they were definitely treated with respect by ED health care professionals (this was the highest-scoring question).
  • 67 percent of respondents felt they were definitely informed about how to manage their condition or recovery after they left the ED (this was the lowest-scoring question).
